No, using a grid isn't cheating. I could use a grid to reproduce the outlines of a Vermeer painting, but I would still have to have his skill and talent to paint it. I do photorealistic graphite drawings. I use a grid for the outlines, but I still have to put in all the work to complete a drawing. I could give that outline to my husband, but he wouldn't be able to get good results!

I’m an English professor (art major and watercolor teacher too) and my goal, my job as an instructor is not to stroke people’s egos. My job is to help them be better at the end of the course than they were in the beginning. People (especially snowflakes coming out of high school) are so used to only getting compliments (trophies and ribbons for just showing up🤦🏻‍♀️): Oh! It’s awesome! Oh you’re so good at xyz!! Beautiful job! Yay you!!! NONE of those things helps them improve. There’s always room for improvement, whether you were at the top of the class or the bottom, there are always skills that can be sharpened. Don’t feel bad about helping people improve. That’s why they’re tuning in. Of course many didn’t like me or my courses, until they went on to university. THEN they were very happy to have done the work and that I didn’t blow smoke up their arse the whole time (as evidenced by their after-the-fact, thank-you emails).

you are so frustrating to listen to with your poor common sense,9.5 x 2 gives 14.25 that leaves 9.75,so mark half of that from one end and mark 10 points 1.5 apart ( gives you 9 spaces) and the final 0.75 x1 the balance will be the margin on the other side do the same on the other side

Grid is another form of tracing, but where you kinda put more efforts. It doesn't do much if your goal is to improve, you'll clueless about basic head structure without the grid. But if your goal is for commission or good looking drawing, then you'll do just fine.

Why do people believe that they can buy a graphite pencil that will be just as black as charcoal when graphite is grey,🤔 The only way they are going to get black is a mix media built into a pencil but they always put a wax or oil with it for it too combine better and apply a smother movement onto paper and majority would be charcoal , But then they are not happy with the smudge test or eraser test, There are many other products in liquid that they place in pens that will give them the dark black look They need to use mix media products as well as graphite pencils christphore lovell shows great examples of his work using mix media pens and graphite pencils,

I have a love hate relationship with these pencils love the extreme black but they are so fragile my sharpest hand sharpener don’t even work some of theses just crumble like sand the entire pencil crumbled away

Hi!what is the best one for erasing coloring pencils?

This is going to sound so stupid but I have that same sharpener and it just, like…stopped sharpening my pencils? I’m aware it’s machined aluminum. It’s the weirdest thing. I live in a cold climate so maybe the molecules shrink slightly and messed with the shape? I’m very confused, it worked great for a week and now none of my pencils fit in it. The wood side barely shaves off the leading edge of a new pencil and the lead side is too small and doesn’t fit any of my pencils anymore. Like I said it used to work and it’s metal, so like, what the hell right??? It’s the same exact one as your video with the plastic case, blue removable piece and the black mini slip case with the red KUM logo. I’m perplexed

Prismacolor has charcoal pencils. They are woodless and are supposed to be the blackest of them all.
